Former CCSD Teacher Accused of Inappropriate Conduct

A teacher formerly employed by a Clark County School District (CCSD) middle school has been accused of additional charges of inappropriate conduct with several students. The teacher, Jeffery Schultz taught at Brown Middle School, located in Henderson, NV. Jeffery Schultz was first arrested in the middle of March because he was accused of three counts of annoyance, molestation of, or indecency towards a minor under 18. According to Henderson Police Department Spokesperson Officer Scott Williams, Schultz was able to post bail and left the Henderson Detention Center the same day he was arrested. According to an arrest report, Shultz was warned about his actions twice by the school administration. Now, this former Las Vegas teacher faces additional charges. Four more students came forward, claiming that Schultz acted inappropriately with them as well while he was still employed as a teacher. The new charges the former teacher has levied against him are all charges of unlawful contact with a minor, a gross misdemeanor.

These charges are considered a continuation of the charges brought against Shultz in March, according to Officer Williams. All this came to head when Shultz asked three female students to stay in his classroom during lunch, requesting two male friends waiting for the girls to leave. According to the arrest report, the girls then reported that Schultz asked them what type of undergarments they were wearing under their leggings. The girls reported feeling confused and uncomfortable.

Shultz’s case was one of many that were highlighted in a report on sexual misconduct in the Clark County School District, written by the Las Vegas Review Journal. The report delved into the factors that contributed to an uptick of students being victimized by employees- centering around three major issues: loopholes in background checks, insufficient training for staff members, and inflexible contracts with the teacher’s union. Over the last three years, 31 Clark County School District employees have been arrested on charges similar to the case with the former middle school teacher outlined above. This is higher than the national average in school districts of a similar size.  Just last year alone, the district had 13 staff members arrested on suspicion of sexual misconduct or inappropriate behaviors with a student.

If your son or daughter has been victimized by a teacher or staff member of Clark County School District, you may have grounds to seek legal recourse.  The 13 staff arrests in the Clark County are 13 too many.
