Xarelto Claims

The law firm of Benson & Bingham is now accepting cases for Patients who ingested the drug Xarelto and experienced hospitalization or suffered severe injury because of bleeding events. Claimants’ alleged that the manufacture and marketer of the blood thinner, Johnson & Johnson and Bayer, failed to extensively researched the bleeding risk associated with Xarelto and therefore failed to adequately warn doctors and patients of its use. In short, and unlike other blood thinning medications (Coumadin or Warfarin) which can be reversed or allow a patient’s blood to coagulate with Vitamin K, Xarelto is an anticoagulant medication which thins a patient's blood, however doctors are unable to stop the bleeding due to Xarelto's irreversible effects. As a result, patients have suffered uncontrollable bleeds such as hemorrhagic stroke, Gastrointestinal bleeding, brain bleeding and in some cases death.

Rivaroxaban, the active ingredient in Xarleto, has been known to cause many side effects including, bloody stools or bleeding gums, back pain, and prolonged bleeding when cut. While the medication was intended to prevent blood clotting, there are obviously a plethora of other nefarious side effects which it appears were not adequately investigated during the drug’s clinical trials prior to the beginning of its commercial availability in Europe and Canada in 2008 followed by the United States in 2011.

There are currently thousands of claimants for which a Multiple District Litigation (MDL) has been established in the Eastern District of Louisiana to consolidate the number of claims. There are 40 cases which have been selected to participate in Bellwether or "test trials" set to begin in March 2017.

Plaintiffs allege Defendants failed to properly test Xarelto, failed to warn doctors and patients of the potential for incurable bleeding and concealed evidence of the dangers associated with ingesting the anticoagulant medication. As of this writing, there is at least one Plaintiff from Nevada, however more victims are expected to come to light in the coming months.
