First Death From Las Vegas Hepatitis C Outbreak Announced

August 1st, 2012 No comments

For much of 2007, the Endoscopy Clinic of Southern Nevada was administering tests and providing information to doctors on the gastroenterology problems of their patients. In the process of performing the procedures, workers at the clinic reused needles and even vials of the anesthetic Propofol as they prepared patients. This practice of not following generally accepted safe injection practices resulted in the possible exposure of nearly 40,000 Southern Nevadans to Hepatitis B. Investigations, tests and interviews by the Nevada and Clark County health departments found seven individuals who were infected with Hepatitis B. If you have been infected by unsafe needle procedures in Nevada, Benson and Bingham can represent you in a Las Vegas medical malpractice case.

It has recently been announced that one of the victims of the Hepatitis C outbreaks has died. Mr Rodolfo Meana passed away from complications from the disease on April 27th. Fearing he was going to die soon, Mr. Meana traveled to the Philippines where he was originally from to see the country and be buried there. His attorney, Nia Killebrew, now alleges that Mr. Meana died due to his exposure to Hepatitis. Mr. Meana’s official cause of death was liver cirrhosis and kidney failure. If you or a relative was sickened or killed from a Southern Nevada Hepatitis outbreak, the personal injury attorneys at Benson and Bingham can represent you in your quest to recover money spent on medical bills, lost work and pain and suffering.

Obviously, there were significant legal ramifications from the Endoscopy Clinic of Southern Nevada Hepatitis C cases. The manufacturers and distributors of the anesthetic propofol, Baxter, McKesson and Teva were ordered to pay $500 million and $162 million in Southern Nevada personal injury awards from the case. Many in the Clark County District Attorney’s office predict that Dr. Desai from the clinic will be indicted for murder.

Benson and Bingham are a Southern Nevada personal injury law firm that represents people injured in Las Vegas injury accidents, back and spine damage and even Southern Nevada casino injuries. Our strength comes from developing significant and trusting relationships with those we represent.

January 9th, 2012 No comments

Las Vegas Metro Police recently forwarded the results of their investigation into the 2010 death of 2-month-old Miowne Obote. The infant, at Las Vegas’ Sunrise Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, died when the catheter that had been applied broke. Before the death, many nurses and other health care workers at the hospital complained to upper management about repeated catheter failures. If you believe you have been injured or a loved one has died as the result of faulty medical equipment, and would like a free consultation with an attorney, contact us at Benson and Bingham today.

After the death of Baby Miowne, two nurses at Sunrise Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Las Vegas, Jessica May Rice and Sharon Ochoa-Reyes, were fired and investigated by Las Vegas Metro Police after the child’s death was ruled a homicide by the Clark County Coroner’s office. Both women were fired and their licenses were suspended. Eventually the nurses’ licenses were reinstated when the State of Nevada Nursing Board found no evidence of wrongdoing. If you have been wrongly fired by your employer and would like to speak with a lawyer about your options, log onto www.bensonbingham.com and register for a free consultation today.

Illegal NV Surgery Leaves Woman Dead

January 3rd, 2012 No comments

In April, 42-year old mother of three, Elena Caro, went into Tiles and More on Charleston Ave in Las Vegas for buttocks enhancement surgery. This surgery was from a pair of unlicensed doctors from Columbia – Ruben Dario Matallana-Galvas and Carmen Olfidia Torres-Sanchez. Ms. Caro eventually died from complications from the anesthesia. If you or a loved one has been injured or killed in a case of Nevada medical malpractice, contact us today.

Today, the family of Ms. Caro filed suit against the owners of Tiles and More, who had leased space to Mr. Matallana-Galvas and Ms. Torres-Sanchez and Sinaloa Beauty Salon, who had referred Ms. Caro to the illegal surgery practice. Poor NV Economy May Spur Rise in Malpractice Cases

January 1st, 2012 No comments

As the Nevada Cancer Institute bankruptcy proceeds, patient care concerns have been in the forefront. Under Nevada law, when a medical institution has filed for Chapter 11, the court should appoint a health care ombudsman, to ensure patient care does not suffer. At this time, no ombudsman has been appointed as the Nevada Cancer Institute is currently not facing any malpractice claims. If you believe you or a loved one has been injured or killed in a case of Nevada medical malpractice, contact us today.

As the economy continues to struggle, and more Nevadans eschew health insurance in lieu of buying groceries and paying rent, Las Vegas hospitals as well as those across the Silver State are facing financial difficulties. Hospital staffs across Nevada are being asked to work longer hours and make due with fewer resources. Because of this, the potential for mistakes, negligence and poor care are greater. If you feel you have gotten substandard medical care due to negligence in Las Vegas or malpractice in Clark County, please contact us today.

Las Vegas law firm Benson and Bingham represents its clients be striving to ensure their satisfaction. We handle Las Vegas accident, injury, negligence and liability cases across Southern Nevada. Please contact us today at BensonBingham.com or 702-382-9797 for a free consultation.
