Dangerous Las Vegas Intersection Has Seen No Improvements in Nearly A Year

March 17th, 2013 No comments

While Las Vegas area police departments and local, state and county health, transportation and safety agencies are working hard to reduce the number of Las Vegas pedestrian accidents in 2013, however, many Las Vegas residents are saying that safety upgrades are not moving fast enough. At one Northeast Valley intersection, local residents are wondering why improvements to the intersection of E. Lake Mead Blvd and N Sloan St. have not begun since local authorities were alerted to the dangerous intersection over nine months ago. Currently, the intersection has crosswalks and even pedestrian crossing caution signs, however, Las Vegas residents living in the neighborhood believe a flashing yellow light or even a traffic signal may be needed. If you or a member of your family has been injured or killed in a Clark County pedestrian accident, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

Last June, while Las Vegas was in the midst of one of its most deadly years for Las Vegas pedestrian deaths, County Commissioner from Clark County, Tom Collins and the state’s Department of Transportation (NDOT) said the intersection needed to be reviewed for safety reasons. Unfortunately, nearly a year later, no improvements have been made to the intersection. An analysis of the situation has shown that NDOT and Clark County have debated over who has jurisdiction over the intersection. While many believe the intersection is dangerous, there have been no Clark County pedestrian deaths at the intersection in 2012 or 2013.

Southern Nevada pedestrian accidents happen every day. If you have been the victim of any type of Las Vegas automobile accident, Benson and Bingham can help you recover financially and recoup money spent on medical bills, for lost work and pain and suffering. Las Vegas Assemblyman Proposes Bill Banning Texting While Crossing The Street

Even though Nevada is seen by many as a libertarian paradise due to the Silver State’s embrace of legalized prostitution and its early acceptance of casino gambling, 2012’s rash of Las Vegas pedestrian deaths and 2013’s pace to beat 2012’s near record breaking numbers has state, county and city lawmakers and law enforcement officials proposing significant new laws designed to increase pedestrian safety. One of those provisions, a law to ban texting while walking received its first legislative hearing in the Nevada Assembly last week. The bill is patterned on the bill recently passed by the New Jersey town of Ft. Lee. If you or a relative has been hurt or killed in a Southern Nevada pedestrian accident, contact Benson and Bingham today.

The bill, as proposed by longtime Democratic Nevada Assemblyman Harvey Mumford, would fine people crossing the street while using their phones $100 for a second violation and $250 for a third and subsequent violation. The first time a person is ticketed for using their cell phone while crossing the street would be given a written warning. The New Jersey statute fines people $85 for breaking the law. A number of Democratic Assembly members asked significant questions during the hearing on the bill. Las Vegas Assemblywoman Heidi Swank wanted to know if the proposed law applied to those reading a book while walking. Transportation Committee Chairman Richard Carrillo wanted to know if he could be ticketed for just looking at his phone, possibly to answer an incoming call.

Another Las Vegas Pedestrian Killed in Yet Another Las Vegas Hit and Run Accident

The month of February continued with the long string of pedestrian fatalities in Las Vegas. So far, Las Vegas is on a pace to exceed the high number of 2012 pedestrian deaths in 2013. On last Wednesday  another Las Vegas pedestrian fatality raise 2013’s total to 23 this year. The crash happened around 10:30 PM on last Wednesday evening. Police investigating the accident have concluded that the person crossing Torrey Pines Dr. was outside of a cross walk at the time of the accident. The accident has been also classified as a hit and run – as what is being called a darkly colored large SUV fled down Torrey Pines Blvd. after the crash. If you or a loved one has been involved in a Las Vegas pedestrian accident, Benson and Bingham can help you recover from your injuries by helping you to secure reimbursement for pain and suffering, lost wages, medical bills and more.

The rise of Southern Nevada pedestrian accidents can be attributed to a number of factors. Las Vegas’ long blocks without crosswalks urge pedestrians to cross streets illegally. Las Vegas has many 6 and 8 lane roads, which creates significant real estate for a pedestrian to get across and spurs vehicle drivers to speed, giving drivers the illusion the roads are meant for speeds of 55, 65 even 70 miles per hour, not 35 or 45 miles per hour.

Benson and Bingham in Las Vegas specializes in all types of Nevada personal injury law, including Southern Nevada pedestrian accidents, Clark County automobile accidents, Las Vegas wrongful death and even casino accidents outside the state of Nevada when the company’s corporate headquarters is located in the Silver State. Our firm is considered one of the leading personal injury law firms in Las Vegas and offers all of our clients our exclusive happiness guarantee. If at the end of your case you feel your invoice isn’t fair, we will work with you to develop a fee structure that meets your approval.

To Reduce Pedestrian Collisions, Crosswalk To Be Added Near Iconic Las Vegas Sign

February 19th, 2013 No comments

Las Vegas, a tourist mecca, has a number of attractions that, when visiting, people from around the world are determined to see. Some folks head straight to the Las Vegas Hilton, to check out the statue of Elvis Presley, who was for much of the 70s the featured performer at the legendary hotel and casino. Others head to the Hard Rock or other newer mega casinos to play blackjack, poker, party in the legendary clubs and other venues, maybe see a show, or to rehab and nurse hangovers at the Saturday and Sunday afternoon pool parties. Many tourists, however, flock to the legendary Las Vegas sign – which has welcomed millions travelling to Sin City. This tourist locale, however, has significant traffic safety challenges, and has often been the scene of a number of Las Vegas pedestrian accidents. If you or a relative has been injured or killed in a Southern Nevada pedestrian accident, contact Benson and Bingham today for a free legal consultation.

Las Vegas lawmakers met this Tuesday to determine how to improve pedestrian safety near the iconic Las Vegas sign. There were a number of proposals that were presented to the Clark County Commission in September, today, commissioners made the decision to build a cross walk at the dangerous intersection, home to many Clark County pedestrian accidents. The crosswalk was seen as the most cost effective of the five options presented to the commission, which heard two bridge proposals, two proposals to move the iconic sign and one for a cross walk.

Two Injured in Separate Las Vegas Pedestrian Accidents

February 9th, 2013 No comments

A couple of different pedestrian automobile accidents left two persons in hospitals listed critically on Thursday evening, a release from Las Vegas Metro stated. The first accident, on 5230 E. Craig Rd. near Nellis Blvd, in the north east valleys. A wheelchair bound senior citizen was man hurt in the crash. The Las Vegas pedestrian accident, which happened at 6:50pm is being investigated by Las Vegas police.

That same night, a homeless man was hit by a car right in front of the Encore Hotel on the strip. The Las Vegas Strip pedestrian crash happened at 7:30 PM. The homeless person had run into the street just before the accident and was not in a cross walk at the time of the crash. The driver of the automobile, reported to be a German engineered BMW, that hit the homeless man was deemed not at fault by Las Vegas metro police. If you have been injured or had a family member killed in a Southern Nevada pedestrian accident, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

While Clark County pedestrian accidents continue at a significant rate in 2013 after 2012’s near record total of pedestrian deaths, safety issues still plague those who walk the streets and sidewalks of Sin City. A significant number of Southern Nevada pedestrian accidents actually occur when the individual crossing the street disobeys traffic laws and jay walks in the middle of the block and does not walk to a traffic light to cross at a cross walk.

Las Vegas Pedestrian Killed in Early Sunday Hit and Run Accident

February 3rd, 2013 No comments

A hit and run pedestrian accident in Las Vegas has left one dead as police search for the gray sedan that killed an unnamed person early Sunday morning. Las Vegas metro police have not released any information on the person killed in the Las Vegas pedestrian hit and run, including age, sex or name of the person who was killed. The search for the car that struck the unnamed pedestrian continues. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a Southern Nevada pedestrian accident, contact Benson and Bingham today.

The Clark County pedestrian death occurred about 1:30 am on Sunday morning when the individual walking along West Sahara Ave either laid or fell down in the street. Lying in the right lane, the person killed was then hit by the grey sedan, which then sped off from the scene. The car is described as from being a model from around the early 2000s.

This hit and run Las Vegas pedestrian accident represents the 16th Las Vegas automobile fatality in 2013. In 2012, in Clark County, 40 pedestrians were killed and 250 injured in Las Vegas traffic accidents. These numbers represented a 40% increase in pedestrian deaths from 2011 to 2012. In response to this dramatic increase, Las Vegas metro police, Nevada State Police, Henderson Police, North Las Vegas State Police, area non-profits, county and city governments and the Silver State’s Department of Transportation have increased speeding, DUI and other traffic violation patrols across Southern Nevada. At many intersections, cross times for pedestrians have been increased. In addition, new technologies are being installed across the city to cost effectively add crosswalks at some of Las Vegas’ longest blocks.

Benson and Bingham is a leading Las Vegas personal injury law firm that focuses on all types of personal injury law including Las Vegas pedestrian accidents, Southern Nevada wrongful deaths and even Las Vegas assault and battery cases.

7-Year Old Girl Killed On Nevada/Arizona Border

January 24th, 2013 No comments

Yesterday a young girl, aged 7, was killed in a hit and run accident on the Nevada border with Arizona. The girl was hit by a silver sports utility vehicle that fled the scene of the accident. The girl was killed when she ran across United States Highway 93 after her parents had pulled over. No one at the scene of the accident knew why the girl had run across the street. The SUV from the accident was later parked at Lake Mead. Federal, Arizona and Nevada police departments are investigating the accident and have yet to make arrests.

While much of Nevada experienced a small increase in Nevada pedestrian accidents in 2012, the Las Vegas area saw a significant increase in Las Vegas pedestrian accidents. The 40 people killed in pedestrian accidents in Las Vegas in 2012 have spurred the community to work hard to increase pedestrian safety measures. The measures taken by Clark County traffic and police agencies to stem the tide of Las Vegas pedestrian fatalities include increased lighting in intersections, new technologies and new cross walks. In addition, Las Vegas Metro Police have increased patrols and ticketing for a number of driving offenses including Las Vegas speeding, driving while talking on a cell phone and driving while intoxicated in Las Vegas. More tickets are being written every day for people who jaywalk as well.

Benson and Bingham was founded in 2003 to assist Southern Nevadans injured through no fault of their own. Our licensed Nevada personal injury attorneys have significant experience with Southern Nevada pedestrian accidents, other Las Vegas traffic accidents, wrongful death cases and more. Our attorneys are successful because they develop strong lasting relationships with their clients. These relationships extend beyond the end of the case. Three Killed in Three Separate Las Vegas Automobile Accidents on January 14th

January 14th, 2013 No comments

While Las Vegas is experiencing a cold-snap that few longtime residents have seen in years, three Las Vegas automobile accident deaths occurred Monday January 14. In each of the automobile related deaths in Las Vegas, weather has not been deemed a factor, but instead police are investigating both driver behavior and whether or not traffic laws were being observed by all participants.

At Eastern Ave. and Pebble Rd., a head on collision between a Lexus SUV and a Nissan Sedan resulted in the death of a three year old passenger and a broken pelvis for the child’s father. The Las Vegas automobile accident happened when the woman driving the Lexus attempted to take a left hand turn. During the attempt, the Lexus and the Nissan collided head on. Las Vegas police are investigating the possible causes of the accident and fatalities including speeding in Las Vegas, an illegal left turn and whether or not the child was adequately secured in the vehicle.

The second accident that happened this Monday occurred when an elderly woman was struck by a car while attempting to cross Lake Mead Blvd. The woman was not in a cross walk as she attempted to cross the street.

The third fatal car crash in Las Vegas today occurred when a woman driving a Buick Sedan on southbound I-5 lost control of her car, crossed a median and crashed into a commercial truck heading north on the freeway. The driver of the semi was not injured and Las Vegas Metro Police are investigating why and how the woman lost control of her vehicle.

Whether you have been in a Southern Nevada automobile crash, a Las Vegas pedestrian accident or have lost a relative through a case of Las Vegas wrongful death, contact Las Vegas personal injury law firm, Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.
