Will Recalled STOK and STOK Quatro Grills Injure Las Vegans?

April 24th, 2012 No comments

Winter is gone and summer is coming to Las Vegas and the rest of Southern Nevada. As the weather gets warmer, families are planning outdoor get-togethers like hikes, picnics, pool parties and barbeques. Unfortunately, some families may be unaware of a dangerous consumer good that could seriously ruin their outdoor summer fun. Last week, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission in conjunction with Health Canada and One World Technologies announced a wide ranging recall of gas grills imported by the Anderson, South Carolina that were manufactured in China. The grills have been found to leak propane gas, which could cause a fire or an explosion. If you have been injured or a relative was killed by a gas grill explosion in Las Vegas, and wish to recover money from lost work, pain and suffering and medical bills, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

The grills, sold nationwide and in Canada were shipped to Home Depots and Direct Tools Outlet stores were shipped in a quantity of approximately 100,000 units. The grills were branded STOK Island and STOK Quatro. The specific model numbers for the recalled grills are AZF (printed on the front regulator) and the numbers 1143 and 1046 on the back. At this time, there have been 569 reports of gas leaks, but no injuries have been reported. Consumers wishing to return their grills should call One World Technologies at 800-867-9624. Information can also be found on their website at www.stokgrills.com. Many of these grills were sold at the 13 Home Depot retailers in the Las Vegas area. If you have been injured in a Clark County grill explosion, Benson and Bingham can help represent you so you aren’t financially injured.

Weekend of Heavy Rains Spur Las Vegas Traffic Accidents

March 20th, 2012 No comments

The heavy rain experienced by Southern Nevada last weekend was welcomed by municipal water officials, home owners and gardeners across Clark County. However, the heavy downpour experienced by our city also spurred a higher than usual amount of car accidents in Las Vegas and the surrounding area. Heavy rains can spur accidents because when roads are wet, drivers’ visibility declines, traction on roads deteriorates and puddles create road hazards. Las Vegas drivers are doubly susceptible due to their relative lack of experience with inclement weather. Nevada traffic law anticipates the added danger of driving in the rain, as drivers are required by Nevada law (NRS 484B.603) to drive below the speed limit in inclement weather. If you were a victim of a Las Vegas traffic accident in this weekend’s rainstorms, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation.

One of the worst this weekend was a three car accident in North Las Vegas that resulted in eight people being sent to the hospital. Taking a left turn at a traffic light, a truck didn’t see two vehicles coming from the other direction. The truck struck one vehicle and the 2nd vehicle slammed into a third. One of the vehicles was so badly damaged that one of the drivers had to be freed by the Jaws of Life. Police cite speeding in the rain as one of the major factors in the crash. If you were a victim in this or any other North Las Vegas vehicle accident, and wish to be reimbursed for lost work, medical bills, pain and suffering, contact Benson and Bingham today.

Our firm, Benson and Bingham is one of Las Vegas leading personal injury law firms. In 2010 and 2011 we secured for our clients over $24,000,000 in awards through negotiation and by going to trial. Our industry leading client service focus and advanced technology integration helps us to provide the best possible representation for those we represent.

In 2010, A statistical analysis of the returned hips showed an astoundingly high failure rate of 13%. What do I do before and after a Las Vegas Car Accident?

January 22nd, 2012 No comments

At 6.30 am on Friday, at North Nellis Blvd. & Vegas Valley Dr.  a  car struck a motorcycle. Thrown from the motorcycle from the impact of the crash, the motorcyclist was rushed directly to the Sunrise Hospital Emergency room, even though his injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening.

While police have yet to determine who was at fault in the crash, all participants should do their best to be certain they admit no guilt when discussing the accident with other drivers, police and even insurance companies until Las Vegas Metro Police determine blame.

Once you are in a Clark County traffic accident is no time to learn you aren’t prepared for a car accident. There are many things you should have in your car ready to go should you be struck or strike someone, something or someone. Firstly, always have a first aid kit in your trunk or glove compartment – and check it periodically to be sure everything is current inside it. Place a notebook and a pen in the glove compartment as well – you will need to write down the other drivers information and retain information from the police. If your cell phone does not have a camera, it is suggested you keep a disposable camera in your car. If you are not injured and do not have to administer first aid, be sure to take pictures of the car accident scene. If you have room, it is advised to emergency flares or orange cones.

This information does not complete your Southern Nevada car accident kit, however. You should always have your insurance information handy, and have contact information for your insurance agent.

Once you get home and are safe, if you or a loved one was injured in the accident, call Benson and Bingham to schedule a free consultation from an experienced Las Vegas injury attorney.

Benson and Bingham are one of Las Vegas’ top law firms who work with victims in the aftermath of a Las Vegas car accident. While we cannot promise results, we will fight to ensure you are reimbursed for lost work, hospital costs and more. Again, if you or a family member has been injured, call us for a free consultation today.

Pit Bull Attacks Grip National Headlines, Parallel Las Vegas Animal Bite Patterns

November 10th, 2010 No comments

We have previously used our Las Vegas injury and accident blog to inform our readers about the realities of animal attacks in Clark County. In the last several years, incidents involving certain aggressive dog breeds such as pit bulls have accounted for the plurality of dog bites in our community. If recent stories from across the country are any indication, the pattern we see here in the Silver State mirrors national trends.

According to Clark County government data, pit bulls accounted for about one-in-five animal bite incidents in the 2009 calendar year. As we have pointed out in previous posts about Nevada dog bite liability, these data do not tell us about the total number of animals in our community. If the 215 pit-bull bites in 2009 came from a total population of 300 pit bulls, that indicates that Las Vegas pit bull owners are putting themselves at major risk for animal-bite liability. On the other hand, if the recent popularity of pit bulls has boosted their total numbers into the thosuands or even tens of thousands of animals in our community, it lends credibility to those pit-bull apologists who emphasize that nurture dictates a dog’s demeanor, not nature.

Stories from this week do show that the breed features prominently in recent animal attacks across the country. Children, small teenagers, and even adults have been attacked by pit bulls in recent days: a toddler was killed at his grandfather’s home, a 13-year-old was attacked while playing basketball, and an unleashed animal hunted people in a public park. In some cases, rabies is suspected as a driver of the aggressive behavior, and in other cases the animals appear to have been kept in inappropriate conditions such as confining several or even dozens of the animals to a small enclosure. As many pit-bull defenders point out, these conditions suggest that the animals in question have been neglected or even abused and that this mistreatment is behind the attacks. Animal owners can be held responsible for personal injury from negligence, but you will need an experienced personal injury attorney on your side to prevail.

When animal bite incidents grow out of obviously neglectful or careless conditions or when the owners have a history of infractions related to proper care of their animals, the claim can escalate from an accident or personal injury tragedy to the level of a criminal misconduct case. If you or your child have been injured in an animal attack, contact us today for a free consultation. The steps you take immediately after the incident can have a major impact on your success in litigation as well as your ability to make a full personal recovery. Our Las Vegas animal accident lawyers have offices to serve you in downtown Las Vegas and in Summerlin.
