Further Update on Food Poisoning at Firefly Restaurant Las Vegas

We have an recent update in a case we’re written about extensively involving salmonella food poisoning at the Firefly Tapas Kitchen and Bar in Las Vegas. As you’ll recall, this was a case we were contacted about by someone who believed that had suffered from food poisoning, and then subsequently the story of this food poisoning case in Southern Nevada broke in the news all across our print and television media. The recent news is that this salmonella food poisoning at Firefly Las Vegas was likely caused by contaminated chorizo, a type of Spanish Sausage. According to this report from the Southern Nevada Health District on the salmonella food poisoning outbreak at Firefly in Southern Nevada, 294 people were sickened after eating at the restaurant. It is believed at those sickened represent at least 27 states in the US and at least two foreign countries as well. If you were the victim of food poisoning, either at Firefly Las Vegas or anywhere in Clark County, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law will sit down with you for a free consultation to discuss possible legal actions you may take.

The report from the Southern Nevada Health District states that it is unlikely that the contaminated chorizo came from a supplier, meaning that this is likely a case of product liability at Firefly Las Vegas itself. These are complicated legal claims; if you have one, you need a lawyer who knows the law. Benson & Bingham have successfully handled these types of claims before, and can help you get the compensation you deserve.

The number of people sickened in this salmonella outbreak is almost 100 more than initially reported. Unfortunately, food poisoning is not uncommon in Las Vegas, given the high level of turnover in restaurant staff, and in our area particularly. This type of product liability occurs in our Las Vegas hotels and casinos, injuring guests and customers.

Benson and Bingham Attorneys at Law have been handling food poisoning and casino and hotel injury cases in Las Vegas for years. These can be very difficult and complicated areas of law, and we know how to navigate the courts and the insurance companies to get you the coverage and compensation you deserve.

1 injured, 1 killed in Las Vegas Car Accident

One teen was killed recently, and another remains in critical condition, following an automobile accident in North Las Vegas in the early hours of last Sunday morning. The deceased, a 17 year old man, was driving a sedan when his vehicle was allegedly hit by another vehicle. A female passenger of the sedan, a girl aged 13 who was thought to be related to the deceased, was thrown from the vehicle. Officers believed this was because she did not have on her seat belt at the time of this wrongful death and injury car accident in Clark County. If you’re in an accident like this, or a loved one is killed at no fault of their own, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can help you deal with the complicated legal proceedings that follow, and get you the compensation you need to move on with your life.

People who knew and went to school with the injured and deceased set up a vigil of sorts at the intersection by placing flowers and candles at the scene of the car crash in North Las Vegas. The parent of a child of a similar age, who was at the scene of this vigil, said he would be hard pressed to find the words to relate what happened here (the car accident) to his own child. A man spoke very kindly of the 17 year old boy who died, mentioning his own pride that children like that were out there. Fellow students, classmates, teachers, and the principal of the school the injured and deceased attended gathered at their high school later in the day, hundreds of people in total.

The driver of the vehicle which allegedly caused this automobile accident in the Las Vegas area suffered only minor injuries. It was initially reported that he may have run a stop sign, and faces possible charges on felony counts pending an investigation involving his possibly having been speeding and perhaps under the influence of alcohol in the Clark County crash.

Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law have been helping people injured in auto accidents in Las Vegas for years. Man Falls 20 Feet Down Shaft In Las Vegas Casino Accident

Las Vegas casinos are intended to be palaces of fun, with places on their properties for the whole family to enjoy. The giant mega casinos on the strip have something for everyone – card games, bars, clubs, multitudes of restaurants – anything from fancy five star dining to all you can eat buffets, even movie theaters and videogame arcades. However, these mega fun palaces also have significant dangers. The large amounts of alcohol poured and served to patrons can spur fights and brawls. Some get upset when they lose money and they take it out on casino employees or other patrons. Finally, Las Vegas casinos have significant physical plants, with huge heating and AC systems, elevator shafts and more that can injure and kill. When these and other systems are not correctly maintained, injuries can happen quickly and can often be life threatening. If you have been injured in a Las Vegas casino, the personal injury attorneys at Benson and Bingham can help you recover financially from the accident.

A freak accident happened in a Las Vegas casino in late February when an elderly man fell into a ventilation shaft near the Tropicana Casino. The man, 70, whose name has not been released, fell 20 feet when a grate he was walking on collapsed. The man was stuck in the shaft for over an hour and after rescued by Clark County fire fighters, was found to have only suffered minor injuries. Freak accidents can happen any day – if you have been injured in a Las Vegas casino accident, contact Benson and Bingham today.

Early Morning Las Vegas Casino Fire Scare Causes Evacuation of Nearly 1000 Hotel Rooms

February 5th, 2013 No comments

Early this morning, a Las Vegas casino fire resulted in the evacuation of nearly 1000 Las Vegas hotel rooms at around 2am. The fire, which did not result in any Las Vegas casino injuries, was caused when an air ventilation system overheated and began smoking. Since the fire danger originated in the hotel’s air ventilation system, the smell of smoke and its attendant smoke inhalation threat spread quickly. Fire and smoke alarms sounded in one tower of the Las Vegas Excalibur, causing the evacuation; guests were allowed to return to their rooms around 4am. If you have been injured in a Las Vegas casino accident, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

In 1980 in a fire at the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas, 87 people were killed. 12 weeks later, another fire, this time with arson as the cause, killed an additional eight people. These fires, due to the large amount of Southern Nevada Las Vegas casino injuries and deaths, caused the adoption of a number of significant fire safety laws for Southern Nevada hotels. These strict guidelines prescribe evacuations and other measures when hotel smoke detectors sound. If someone you love has been injured or killed in a Clark County casino accident, contact Benson and Bingham today.

During Las Vegas CES, Thousands Descend On Las Vegas Casinos

January 10th, 2013 No comments

Las Vegas’ biggest tradeshow, CES, is this week and over 155,000 people are descending on Sin City to look at new technology products, make deals and party. In the weeks before CES, Las Vegas imports hundreds of thousands of pounds of meat, vegetables, beer, wine and fruit. Other local businesses also gear up for the trade show, and bring in additional waiters, hotel workers and even exotics dancers. During CES when the majority of Southern Nevada’s hotel rooms are booked to capacity, a number of individuals may become victims of Las Vegas hotel accidents by slipping on recently mopped floors, getting stuck on elevators or be hurt when they become victim to a poorly maintained property, piece of furniture or equipment. If you have been injured in a Las Vegas casino, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

A recent study by an insurance provider for rental cars shows that Las Vegas had more travelers requesting insurance coverage on their rental cars than almost all the other cities in the United States. Las Vegas’ large 8-lane roads and confusing traffic packed streets are seen as the culprit. If you are involved in a Las Vegas automobile accident while attending CES, Benson and Bingham can represent you in your personal injury case.

Two Las Vegas Casino Assaults Put Casino Safety In Question

December 24th, 2012 No comments

Two especially violent injury incidents at Las Vegas casinos the past few weeks have shown that no matter how many safety features are installed in the gambling palaces, Las Vegas casino injuries can still happen every day.

On  Saturday the 22nd, two blackjack dealers at the Bellagio got in an argument while working in the casino pit. As the argument escalated, one of the Bellagio employees, Brenda Wilson, aged 50, stabbed her co-worker in the face. After the incident, the stabbed woman was rushed to a local hospital and Ms. Wilson was arrested on charges of Las Vegas assault and battery. If you have been injured in a Clark County casino assault, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

In another Las Vegas casino assault, one woman and one man are dead in an apparent murder suicide. On Friday, December 14th, 31-year old Edward Brandt, from Lake Forest, Il, shot and killed 30-year old Jessica Kenny while she was working at a concierge desk in the Las Vegas Excalibur. Ms. Kenny did not work for the Excalibur hotel, instead was employed by one of the casino’s partners, Vegas.com, a travel website. Ms. Kenny and Mr. Brandt may have been romantically involved as far back as 2009 but are not known to have dated recently. After shooting and killing Ms. Kenny, Mr. Brandt turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.

Las Vegas Metro Automobile Accident Injures Two

December 3rd, 2012 No comments

Just days after a Clark County fire engine collided with a civilian Las Vegas driver in a Las Vegas automobile accident, this weekend, a Las Vegas metro policeman collided with a civilian on Decatur Blvd where it intersects with Meadows Ln. in Las Vegas. The difference between last week’s fire truck crash is the police officer had his lights on and sirens blaring. The Metro Police officer, whose name has not been released, spent much of Saturday evening under observation at Las Vegas’ University Hospital.  The accident occurred at approximately 7:00 PM on Saturday evening. No information has been released regarding why the officer was speeding and the Las Vegas Metro Police have withheld statements until the investigation of the crash is complete.

The driver that was struck by the still unnamed police officer was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee. The driver, 19-year old Chelsea Coleman, did not suffer serious injuries and was quickly released by University Hospital. Witnesses say Ms. Coleman was headed west on Meadows Ln when her car was struck by the marked Crown Victoria driving by the Las Vegas Metro Police officer. If you or a loved one has been involved in a Las Vegas car crash, Benson and Bingham can help with financially recovering from the accident and its injuries. Deadly Shooting In North Las Vegas Casino

November 12th, 2012 No comments

A North Las Vegas casino shooting has left one man dead and another in custody early Monday morning. Eight hours later, the Lucky Club was operating as usual, with no interruptions and with few of their regular clientele knowing what had happened. The shooting occurred around 2:30 am. When North Las Vegas Police made it to the scene they found one man bleeding from his wounds. The suspected shooter was in the custody of the casino security force when police arrived. The wounded man, aged 31, was eventually pronounced dead at University Hospital. The shooter, 35-year old Shonta Hammond allegedly fired on the victim following a dispute. If you or a relative has been injured in a Southern Nevada casino, Benson and Bingham can represent you in a personal injury or wrongful death case.

The alleged shooter is being held on multiple counts including being a use of a concealed weapon, being a felon possessing a gun, and use of a deadly weapon involving a murder. Lucky Strike Casinos declined comments on the incident.

The shooting mirrors the case of a 2010 North Las Vegas casino robbery homicide where Stefon Clark waited in the Opera House Casino in North Las Vegas, robbing patrons. As Mr. Clark waited, Las Vegas resident Mario DeJesus went into the casino’s bathroom when Clark demanded money. Not having any, Mr. DeJesus was shot repeatedly.

North Las Vegas Casino Sued in Shooting Death of Mario De Jesus

October 23rd, 2012 No comments

Many injured or the families of those killed in Las Vegas casino injury accidents often believe that a casino can only be found negligent when the casino grounds are somehow unsafe, such as slippery floors, uneven walkways and even allowing access to unsafe areas normally meant for employees. However, the 2010 death of Mario De Jesus shows how far a casino’s liability extends. Recently the owners of North Las Vegas’ Opera House Casino were sued by Mr. De Jesus’ family for not providing enough security. The family also filed suit against the man alleged to have shot Mr. De Jesus, Stefon Clark. Mr. Clark will stand trial in mid-November this year.

Almost exactly two years ago on the 23rd day of October 2010 a robbery was reported to casino security. The person had been robbed of $200. Mr. De Jesus then went into the bathroom. Stefon Clark tried to mug him and when Mr. Clark realized Mr. De Jesus had no money, Mr. Clark shot Mr. De Jesus repeatedly. The lawsuit alleges there weren’t enough security measures at the Opera House Casino. The bathroom common areas had no video surveillance. In addition, since the previous robbery had not been investigated, the casino showed additional negligence. If you or a relative has been injured or killed in a Nevada casino accident, Benson and Bingham has the experience to successfully represent your case.

Benson and Bingham was founded in 2003 as a family run Las Vegas personal injury law firm. We are consistently ranked as one of Las Vegas’ leading law firms.
