Even though the Pentagon and Veteran’s Administration have significantly improved on post-traumatic stress disorder treatment and psychological treatment in general, twice as many active-duty soldiers committed suicide last month. In fact, throughout 2012, with fewer military personnel being deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, suicides have continued to rise each month. In June 12 active-duty soldiers committed suicide, 16 in May and in July 26 took their own lives. The suicides have not been limited to active-duty soldiers – 12 Army Reservists committed suicide in June and July. Many of these soldiers have also suffered brain damage and other injuries from their active-duty service in the military. If you or someone you love has suffered from significant brain injury due to military service and you live in Nevada, Benson and Bingham can represent you in your Las Vegas personal injury case.
Only one of the potential suicides has actually been confirmed, however, the deaths continue to be investigated. The Army has also started to reach out to the individuals who have been impacted by suicide – their studies have shown that at a minimum ten others are affected negatively in the aftermath of a suicide. Many suicides are often the result of significant psychological trauma from combat and can even arise from combat injuries to the brain. If you are the relative of a Las Vegas veteran who suffered from debilitating brain and spinal cord injury, contact Benson and Bingham to discuss your Nevada wrongful death inquiry.
