Vicious Las Vegas Pit Bull Attack Injures Two

March 23rd, 2013 No comments

While many advocates for pit bulls and other breeds considered dangerous, lament that public perception of the animals’ ferocity has less to do with the dog but instead how the animal has been treated, trained and raised. Unfortunately, a recent Las Vegas animal attack by a pit bull shows that those bit by any type of dog have injuries that need treatment, often hospitalization. With care of these injuries comes a multitude of bills – doctors’ bills, emergency room bills, prescription and over the counter medicine credit card charges and more. In addition, in the aftermath of a Las Vegas pit bull violence, the person bit may have lost a significant amount of pay from being out of work and may suffer severe emotional damage from the ferocity of the attack.

An early March Las Vegas dog bite incident injured two, when 60-year old Glen Coffer attempted to stop a fight between two dogs. As Mr. Coffer was trying to break off the fight, Daisy, a 6-year old pit bull turned to attack Mr. Coffer. 23-year old Gianna Silvagni was also injured in the attack when she tried to save Mr. Coffer from Daisy’s vicious attack. Nevada Senate Considers Bill Designed To Limit Las Vegas Animal Attacks

March 13th, 2013 No comments

Last summer’s Clark County chimpanzee escape has led the Nevada legislature to consider regular Nevadans from owning exotics animals such as bears, great apes like chimpanzees, orangutans, and gorillas and large cats such as lions, tigers and leopards. While there was no Las Vegas exotic animal injury associated with last year’s chimp escape, the ferocity of these wild beasts could lead to a deadly Southern Nevada animal attack. The bill, SB245, whose primary sponsor is Republican Minority Leader, Michael Roberson, also prohibits Nevadans from owning exotic reptiles like Gila monsters and alligators. SB245 grandfathers in anyone who currently owns a dangerous or exotic animal, and it only applies to the new purchase of such creatures. The bill also reduces the need of tragic shooting of exotic animals by Nevada law enforcement when they inevitably escape. If you or a family member have been injured or killed in a Southern Nevada animal attack, contact Benson and Bingham today.

Last year, the private residence that housed exotic animals such as chimpanzees had two escape incidents that resulted in one of the great apes being killed by Las Vegas law enforcement. The other chimpanzee, CJ, was taken from her owners when she escaped a second time. The owners of the two chimpanzees, who are trained and licensed animal trainers, allege that CJ did not escape on her own and was freed by militant animal rights activists.

6-Year Old Injured in Las Vegas Pit Bull Attack

February 10th, 2013 No comments

When 6-year old Taeven headed to his friend’s house for an afternoon of play he had no idea he would be brutally attacked by his friend’s pet pit bull. The boy is now recovering at home. Police responding to the attack were so shocked by its ferocity, they were certain Taeven would have to have his leg amputated. His mother, after witnessing the attack expressed shock and was horrified. The owner of the dog, a family friend and neighbor, has expressed significant remorse for the Las Vegas animal attack. After spending a significant amount of time at University Hospital, Taeven is currently recuperating at home. The boy now gets around his house in a specially made walker and while doctors believe the boy will make a full recovery a metallic rod has been inserted into his leg to assist in the healing of his bones. If you or a family member have been injured or killed in a Southern Nevada dog attack, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation.

The animal that attacked young Taeven has been put in custody of Las Vegas animal control and has been scheduled to be put to sleep. The common perception of pit bull attacks has increased owners of the breed to have costly insurance in the case of a Clark County animal bite attack. Many dog enthusiasts believe the common perception of the violence associated with the pit bull breed has actually little to do with the dog and more to do with poor reporting. In all cases, dogs in the home should undergo specific training and should not be left unsupervised in the presence of young children.

Benson and Bingham, one of Las Vegas’ premiere personal injury law firms, has significant experience with Las Vegas animal attacks, Las Vegas pedestrian accidents and even casino injuries outside of the Silver State when the company’s corporate parent is based in Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas Woman Injured After Bull Escapes

August 20th, 2012 No comments

Las Vegas animal attacks can result in significant hospital stays and bills resulting from bites, scratches, falls and even concussions. The most common Southern Nevada animal attack are obviously dog bits and dog attacks of humans and other canines. Other animals, domesticated, exotic and agricultural can also attack humans or pets and can cause significant physical and emotional damage to attack victims. Finally, animal attacks can also result in additional legal exposure for their owners, leading to Las Vegas wrongful death, brain and spinal injury and other lawsuits.

This weekend, a bull owned by Tom Collins, County Commissioner for Clark County escaped his pen had to be tranquilized by North Las Vegas police. A 42-year old woman was injured during the livestock’s escape, and she received medical attention, including stiches on her chin. The woman was on Mr. Collins’ property tending to a horse she boards with him. The woman received medical attention and due to the head injury was presumably checked for concussion and other brain injury symptoms. The woman had been assisting ranch hands at the Collins property using a cattle stick to direct the bull back towards his enclosure. The bull turned and pushed the woman up against a building, injuring her chin. If you have suffered injury due to an animal attack in Las Vegas, Benson and Bingham can assist you in recovering money you’ve spent or lost recovering from a Clark County animal attack.

Three Victims in Las Vegas Pit Bull Attack

January 29th, 2011 No comments

In another tragic instance of animal violence in our community, three people were taken to Sunrise Hospital after an 80-pound pit bull attacked and seriously injured a Las Vegas woman. At this time, it is unknown what provoked the attack, or if it was unprovoked as many such incidents are reported to be.

This Las Vegas animal attack began when the pit bull overpowered a 55-year-old woman and began biting her all over her body. At the time of her hospitalization, doctors thought that the victim would lose several fingers and was also at risk of needing a foot amputation as a result of the bites. Pit bulls frequently cause massive damage during attacks by targeting vulnerable parts of the body. In extreme cases, these attacks have led either directly or indirectly to brain trauma.

A 23-year-old woman and another man both suffered minor injuries as they attempted to rescue the victim from the aggressive animal. The man ultimately ended the attack by shooting and killing the dog. Unfortunately these serious animal attacks often end in this manner, often because the animals have been mistreated, neglected, or bred in a way that fosters uncompromising violent behavior.

If you or a loved one have been harmed in an animal attack in Southern Nevada, you should consult with an experienced Nevada personal injury lawyer. You may have a right to compensation and damages, and you should explore these options to ensure that you are restored after an animal attack compromises your physical or mental health.
