Drivers In Senator Reid’s Las Vegas Injury Accident Cited for Unsafe Driving

November 4th, 2012 No comments

The last of October the motorcade carrying Nevada Democratic Senator Harry Reid was involved in a six-car accident on Northbound I5 at approximately 1:15 on October 26th. After the accident, the Senator was rushed to University Medical Center where he was treated for bruising on the hip and ribs. The hospital visit was precautionary and Senator Reid was released that afternoon. Unfortunately for most Nevadans, however, they do not have the financial resources to afford a trip to an emergency room, and if they have health insurance, even deductibles they need to pay for coverage can create significant financial hardship. If you have been injured in a Las Vegas injury car crash, contact Benson and Bingham today. Our team of Las Vegas injury attorneys have significant experience with the tricks insurance companies play.

This week, the Silver State Highway Patrol released their accident report from the crash. Two of the individuals driving in the Senator’s motorcade were cited for unsafe driving practices which caused the crash. Michael Percival, a US Capital Police officer received a charge for unsafe driving. Cory Mikkelson was charged with driving too close at an unsafe speed in Las Vegas. Benson and Bingham can represent you if you have been injured in a Las Vegas automobile accident.

Tragedy avoided as Nevada airplane accident yields only minor personal injuries

August 11th, 2011 No comments

Two Nevada pilots and their families are thanking their good graces for being able to walk away from a Nevada airplane accident that sent their small plane flipping end-over-end on Wednesday morning. Investigations are continuing to assess the circumstances of an accident that could easily have been a tragedy for air enthusiasts throughout Nevada.

According to initial reports, a student pilot and that person’s instructor were flying in northern Nevada on one of several practice flights required to build the student’s experience level up to at least 20 hours of airtime. The plane was attempting to make an unplanned landing at a state park but the landing caused the plane to flip end-over-end and come to a stop on its roof. The two passengers extracted themselves from the single-propeller aircraft and rested at a nearby campsite until emergency personnel arrived on the scene. Paramedics administered basic first aid to treat the pilots’ Nevada personal injuries.

The student pilot can take some comfort in the botched landing — the plane’s downward trajectory was apparently unplanned and the terrain on which the plane attempted to land was far from the uncluttered tarmac of a designated airfield. Even more, the passengers should be grateful that they suffered only minor injuries and were not killed. Many plane crashes in our state happen under mysterious circumstances and kill experienced pilots, raising the possible need for a Nevada wrongful death attorney.

In this case, human error is likely to be identified as the cause of the Nevada airplane crash. Flying is an extremely technical undertaking and even a small error left uncorrected can result in a near tragedy like this one. When human error is not suspected, investigations of this type focus on possible mechanical problems which can variously be attributed to insufficient maintenance or faulty parts. In the latter case, the victim of any such crash or the victim’s family is likely to consider legal action under Nevada defective product liability law. Pit Bull Attacks Grip National Headlines, Parallel Las Vegas Animal Bite Patterns

November 10th, 2010 No comments

We have previously used our Las Vegas injury and accident blog to inform our readers about the realities of animal attacks in Clark County. In the last several years, incidents involving certain aggressive dog breeds such as pit bulls have accounted for the plurality of dog bites in our community. If recent stories from across the country are any indication, the pattern we see here in the Silver State mirrors national trends.

According to Clark County government data, pit bulls accounted for about one-in-five animal bite incidents in the 2009 calendar year. As we have pointed out in previous posts about Nevada dog bite liability, these data do not tell us about the total number of animals in our community. If the 215 pit-bull bites in 2009 came from a total population of 300 pit bulls, that indicates that Las Vegas pit bull owners are putting themselves at major risk for animal-bite liability. On the other hand, if the recent popularity of pit bulls has boosted their total numbers into the thosuands or even tens of thousands of animals in our community, it lends credibility to those pit-bull apologists who emphasize that nurture dictates a dog’s demeanor, not nature.

Stories from this week do show that the breed features prominently in recent animal attacks across the country. Children, small teenagers, and even adults have been attacked by pit bulls in recent days: a toddler was killed at his grandfather’s home, a 13-year-old was attacked while playing basketball, and an unleashed animal hunted people in a public park. In some cases, rabies is suspected as a driver of the aggressive behavior, and in other cases the animals appear to have been kept in inappropriate conditions such as confining several or even dozens of the animals to a small enclosure. As many pit-bull defenders point out, these conditions suggest that the animals in question have been neglected or even abused and that this mistreatment is behind the attacks. Animal owners can be held responsible for personal injury from negligence, but you will need an experienced personal injury attorney on your side to prevail.

When animal bite incidents grow out of obviously neglectful or careless conditions or when the owners have a history of infractions related to proper care of their animals, the claim can escalate from an accident or personal injury tragedy to the level of a criminal misconduct case. If you or your child have been injured in an animal attack, contact us today for a free consultation.
