1 injured, 1 killed in Las Vegas Car Accident

One teen was killed recently, and another remains in critical condition, following an automobile accident in North Las Vegas in the early hours of last Sunday morning. The deceased, a 17 year old man, was driving a sedan when his vehicle was allegedly hit by another vehicle. A female passenger of the sedan, a girl aged 13 who was thought to be related to the deceased, was thrown from the vehicle. Officers believed this was because she did not have on her seat belt at the time of this wrongful death and injury car accident in Clark County. If you’re in an accident like this, or a loved one is killed at no fault of their own, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can help you deal with the complicated legal proceedings that follow, and get you the compensation you need to move on with your life.

People who knew and went to school with the injured and deceased set up a vigil of sorts at the intersection by placing flowers and candles at the scene of the car crash in North Las Vegas. The parent of a child of a similar age, who was at the scene of this vigil, said he would be hard pressed to find the words to relate what happened here (the car accident) to his own child. A man spoke very kindly of the 17 year old boy who died, mentioning his own pride that children like that were out there. Fellow students, classmates, teachers, and the principal of the school the injured and deceased attended gathered at their high school later in the day, hundreds of people in total.

The driver of the vehicle which allegedly caused this automobile accident in the Las Vegas area suffered only minor injuries. It was initially reported that he may have run a stop sign, and faces possible charges on felony counts pending an investigation involving his possibly having been speeding and perhaps under the influence of alcohol in the Clark County crash.

Further Update on Shooting Incident and Wrongful Deaths in Las Vegas

April 26th, 2013 No comments

The man in a story we have written about before, the suspected shooter in a potential wrongful death case in Las Vegas who is alleged to have been involved in an auto accident and gun shooting incident, was indicted today by a grand jury in Clark County. In addition to the previous charges, he faces a new count of sexual assault from a case dating back to 2010. The grand jury indictment included 11 counts – first degree murder of three, attempted murder of one, and more – all from a sensational, headline grabbing incident in February. Should this terrible type of thing occur, you need a good lawyer who will handle the legal aspects and details while you deal with the loss of your loved one. Call Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law, we can help.

The incident that left the three people dead in this auto accident near the Las Vegas Strip, and their families facing a wrongful death case in Southern Nevada, occurred when an argument outside the Aria spilled out onto the streets of the city. The two involved in the argument, including the 27 year old indicted by the grand jury, headed away from the resort in separate vehicles. The alleged perpetrator began shooting at the other vehicle as both cars headed north in the direction of Flamingo Road. The driver of the other vehicle and his passenger were struck by bullets, and the driver lost control of his vehicle. The car then blew through a red light and smashed into a taxicab, causing the taxi to burst into flame. A passenger in the taxi, the driver of the taxi, and the driver of the vehicle that collided with the cab died as a result of their wounds from the accident; three wrongful deaths in the Las Vegas Valley.

Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can help when you are facing the possibility of a wrongful death case in Southern Nevada. A wrongful death is when a loved one dies as the result of an accident where someone else is at fault, as in this incident, or medical malpractice cases. The sensational story of a shooting, several wrongful deaths in Las Vegas, a car accident in Clark County, and the man responsible for it all took a new turn recently. Southern Nevada Motorcycle Crash Victim’s Family Promotes Safety

March 31st, 2013 No comments

The family of a man killed in a motorcycle accident in Las Vegas a weekend ago is speaking out about the accident. The man’s son, 27, cautioned that motorcyclists should proceed with more caution. The nephew of the victim also spoke out, declaring the fatal accident in Clark County a tragedy.

The deceased was driving a Harley Davidson on Saturday when a vehicle pulled out in front of him; he was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. If you’re involved in a motorcycle accident in Clark County, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can help.

An instructor at College of Southern Nevada, who teaches a Motorcycle Safety Program, advocates awareness and safety as ways to prevent motorcycle accidents in Southern Nevada. He points out that the protection a motorcycle offers is limited compared to the protection offered by a car. On a motorcycle, the protection is only what you are wearing in terms of motorcycle gear. Additionally, the instructor pointed out, motorcycle drivers must handle more tasks than if you were driving a car. Motorcycle accidents in Las Vegas are common, and if you’re ever involved in one, you should turn to experienced motorcycle accident attorneys like Benson & Bingham.

The victim’s family is focused on ways to get the word out regarding motorcycle safety. They are hoping to reach other families and hopefully prevent similar motorcycle accidents, and any personal injury accidents in Southern Nevada. The message of the family is that motorcycle drivers must constantly be on the lookout for dangers, constantly paying attention to the road. Additionally, motorcyclists should always be planning for what they would do to avoid potential accidents.

If you’re ever a party involved in a motorcycle or any vehicle accident, Benson & Bingham can help. Benson & Bingham are licensed Nevada attorneys. They are a top firm that handles personal injury cases, automobile accidents (including motorcycle accidents). They also handle pedestrian accidents, negligence issues involving casinos with corporate parents in Nevada. They have successfully taken on insurance companies to get the most for their clients time and time again, and offer free initial consultations to their clients. You should never take on big casinos or insurance companies on your own, nor should you ever accept their first offer. Benson & Bingham are here to help. Benson & Bingham know that legal fees can seem daunting to people involved in their first litigation, and will both walk you through the process, and work with you to set up a fee structure that works for you.

Las Vegas Strip Shooting Results in the Wrongful Death of Three People

February 21st, 2013 No comments

An argument in a Las Vegas casino early this morning resulted in a shooting and a resulting Las Vegas automobile crash that killed three on Las Vegas Blvd at around 4:30 am today. The argument, which began at the valet station of the Aria Hotel, escalated on Las Vegas Blvd. when an occupant of a Range Rover shot into a silver Maserati at the intersection of  Flamingo Rd. and Las Vegas Blvd. After the shooting, the Maserati ran the red light in the intersection and slammed into a taxi being driven by Michael Boldon. The three people killed in the Las Vegas wrongful death accident were rapper Kenneth Cherry, who went by the stage name of Kenny Clutch, Michael Boldon, the cab driver and an additional unnamed passenger in the taxi.

The Las Vegas automobile accident of the Maserati striking the taxi caused a significant explosion that burned both occupants of the cab beyond recognition. The force of the Italian sports car striking the taxi also caused other vehicles in the intersection to be damaged. Las Vegas area police agencies have continued an exhaustive search for the Range Rover seen to be at the heart of the incident. The truck is known to have paper dealer license plates and large rims. A census of casino and taxi security cameras show the imported black SUV heading along Koval Lane in the time after the shooting. This was captured by the Venetian Hotel’s security cameras. The taxi company involved in the Clark County wrongful death attack, Desert Cab, had no vehicles in service the rest of the day.

Widow Laments Anniversary of Veteran’s Las Vegas Wrongful Death

December 12th, 2012 No comments

It happened a year ago, but the widow of a man murdered last Christmas still cannot cope with her loss. The white Cadillac in which the man died, and had once been the entire family’s pride and joy sits, unused, unfixed rotting. Rhonda Gibson, the widow of Stanley Gibson, a post-traumatic stress disorder suffering gulf war veteran was  killed in a Las Vegas apartment complex last December 12th by Las Vegas Metro Police when they attempted to remove Mr. Gibson from his car. If you has lost a loved one to a Las Vegas Metro Police wrongful death accidents, contact the attorneys at Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

Last December, off his medication, disoriented, lost and panicking, Mr. Gibson pulled into an apartment complex that looked very similar to the one he has just moved into. The honorably discharged veteran was sitting in his white Cadillac when residents of the apartment complex grew concerned and eventually called police. Las Vegas Metro surrounded Mr. Gibson’s car and ordered him, weapons drawn to exit the car. When Mr. Gibson refused, officers on the scene devised a plan to fire a beanbag round into his window, and pull him from the car. Instead of a beanbag round, however, the officer fired a live shotgun round. When the shotgun round went off, a startled Las Vegas police officer, Jesus Alvarado, fired seven shots from his assault rifle killing Gibson at the scene. Losing a victim to a Las Vegas wrongful death can be emotionally and financially devastating. Contact Benson and Bingham to recover costs like lost income, hospital bills and even pain and suffering.

Las Vegas Casino Assault Tragic for Both Parties

November 30th, 2012 No comments

In July 2011, 46-year old John Massie and 39-year old Benjamin Hawkins were both enjoying their Las Vegas vacations partying with friends at the now closed O’Sheas casino on the Las Vegas strip. While the gentlemen had never met, the events of that evening would impact them and their families potentially for the rest of their lives. If you have lost a family member in a Las Vegas wrongful death accident, contact Benson and Bingham today to start discussing your case.

Mr. Hawkins entered a bathroom at O’Sheas and he has testified that Mr. Massie made a comment pertaining to Mr. Hawkins race and the fact that he was wearing a yellow shirt. Events escalated, to the point where Mr. Hawkins punched Mr. Massie in the face. As Mr. Massie fell to the floor, he died from the blunt force of his head striking the floor. Mr. Hawkins contends that he struck Mr. Massie out of self-defense, but the Clark County DA’s office disagreed and charged Mr. Hawkins with involuntary manslaughter.

This week, Mr. Hawkins was tried in Clark County courts, and was judged guilty in the Southern Nevada wrongful death accident. Mr. Hawkins now faces a maximum sentence of 4 years in jail due to the accident. If your immediate relative has been killed in a Clark County wrongful death tragedy, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

Worker Killed Repairing Las Vegas I-5 Freeway

November 29th, 2012 No comments

Injury accidents happen all the time in Las Vegas: in casinos, on our roads, our highways, workplaces, everywhere. These accidents can happen to anyone – tourists, children, the elderly, people commuting to work, even people at work. When an accident happens at work, it can either be the fault of the employee or the employer, and when an accident does happen, often the injured is eligible for Las Vegas workmen’s compensation coverage. When someone is injured in the workplace, an individual should always hire an attorney to represent them and not immediately take the offer from their employer’s insurance company. Your employer and their insurance agency do not work for you, and instead have a goal of saving money. Contact Benson and Bingham today for a free legal consultation about your Las Vegas workmen’s compensation case.

At other times, a workplace injury can turn even more tragic when it results in a Las Vegas wrongful death. An example of one of these tragic occurrences happened yesterday when a worker was killed on the job fixing a stretch of Las Vegas Interstate 15. This Southern Nevada wrongful death accident occurred when a man was crushed by falling debris while performing road maintenance. As is the case in all of these tragedies, both the Nevada and federal Occupational Safety Administrations were investigating the accident.

Benson and Bingham, one of Las Vegas’ leading personal injury law firms, represents people injured in Southern Nevada through no fault of their own. Our Nevada licensed attorneys have represented individuals or their surviving family members in cases of Clark County wrongful death, Las Vegas pedestrian accidents and Nevada product liability. Our success has come from the strong relationships we build with the people who we represent. Our success is represented by the $24,000,000 we secured for our clients in 2010 and 2011.

US DOJ to Release Report on Rash of Las Vegas Metro PD Involved Shootings

November 14th, 2012 No comments

If 2012 has been a year of increasing Las Vegas traffic fatalities, then 2010 and 2011 were years of Las Vegas wrongful death incidents by the hands of local area police. Tomorrow, the federal Department of Justice is releasing their report on the shooting incidents. The United States DOJ reviewed the procedures and records of the Las Vegas Metro police for 8 month while compiling the report. The report will also include recommendations from DOJ’s community policing division on how to improve the relationship between the Metro Police Department and community members in Las Vegas. If you have lost a family member in a Nevada wrongful death incident with the Las Vegas Metro PD, contact Benson and Bingham today.

The shootings from 2010 and 2011 were brought significant scorn and concern for the department. In trying to address the shootings a Las Vegas Metro Police internal investigation concluded that:

  • African Americans were involved in more officer shooting incidents than other races
  • Even though officer involved shootings dropped to 18 from 25 in 2011, 12 of those people died that year, a record.
  • The majority of people fired upon by Las Vegas Metro were carrying firearms at the time. Of those folks, the majority of those had shot at the police.

Two of the more egregious officer involved shooting cases in the past couple years were the 2011 shooting death of Gulf War Veteran Stanley Gibson and the 2010 deaths of Erik Scott and Trevon Cole.

The survivors of Clark County wrongful death incidents are not alone. The Las Vegas personal injury law firm Benson and Bingham can represent you and the rest of your family to help you recover money spent on medical bills, lost work and pain and suffering. We handle all types of Las Vegas personal injury law including automobile accidents, casino slips and falls and even dog or other animal attacks.
