NTSB Assigns Blame In December Las Vegas Tourist Helicopter Crash

Last year, on December 7th, a Las Vegas sightseeing helicopter carrying five people, the pilot, two from Kansas celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary and two honeymooners from India crashed just sixteen miles from Las Vegas. The two couples were on vacation, and had paid tour operator, Sundance Helicopters, to take them on a helicopter tour of the Hoover Dam. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, there were no survivors from the crash. The company had also been involved in 2003 when a helicopter taking tourists on a tour of the Grand Canyon crashed after its rotors struck the walls of the national monument. The NTSB, which investigates tragic air accidents across the United States, has issued its report on the December helicopter accident that resulted in the tragic deaths of the two couples. The board states that certain steering mechanisms and other small parts including bolts and screws were not found at the scene of the crash. However, the parts of the helicopter that are normally attached to the steering mechanism and bolts were found, and there is little chance the parts would be missing even after a catastrophic accident. Investigators are assuming the bolts and other small parts were secured before the helicopter took flight, were installed incorrectly and fell off during flight. These findings are consistent with the Eurocopter AS350’s reported climbs, dives and turns during the crash. If you have lost a relative due to a Hoover Dam helicopter crash, and wish to recover money for lost work, travel costs, hospital costs and pain and suffering, contact Benson and Bingham today.
